Year 7 Chemistry Week 12 - Project

Welcome to Week 12 of Year 7 Chemistry! This week, you get to showcase everything you’ve learned by creating a big end-of-unit project. This is your chance to dive deeper into a topic that fascinates you, use your creativity, and present your findings to your grownups (or even record your presentation to share).

How to Create Your Project

  1. Choose Your Tasks: Use the first table to pick a combination of activities to complete.

  2. Pick Your Topic: Use the second table to choose the subject you want to explore.

  3. Create Your Presentation: Combine your research, experiments, and creativity into a project that you can present to others.

  4. Share Your Work: Present your project to your grownups and take photos or videos to capture your hard work.

Table 1: Task Options

Task

Description

Read a Book

Choose a chapter or section from a chemistry-related book.

Watch a Video

Find an educational video that relates to your topic.

Listen to a Podcast

Explore podcasts about science or your chosen subject.

Conduct an Experiment

Plan and perform an experiment, documenting your process and results.

Create an Animated Biography

Make a short animation about a scientist related to your topic.

Make a Poster

Design an eye-catching poster that explains your topic.

Write a Report

Summarize your findings in a clear and detailed report.

Record a Video Presentation

Film yourself explaining your project and what you discovered.

Table 2: Topic Choices

Topic

Description

Candle Science

Investigate the chemistry of candles, including combustion and oxygen.

Kitchen Science

Explore the chemical changes that happen in cooking.

Environmental Chemistry

Study air or water pollution and how chemistry can solve these problems.

States of Matter

Examine solids, liquids, and gases and their transformations.

Chemistry in the Universe

Learn about how elements are formed in stars and their role in the cosmos.

Material Science

Investigate properties of materials like strength, flexibility, or durability.

Safety Tips

  1. Always have an adult supervise any experiment involving heat, flames, or sharp tools.

  2. Wear safety goggles and gloves if working with substances that could spill or irritate the skin.

  3. Keep your workspace clear and organized to prevent accidents.

  4. Follow all instructions carefully and clean up your area when you’re finished.

  5. If recording experiments, ensure your camera setup is stable and does not obstruct the activity.

Sharing Your Project

Once your project is complete:

  • Present It Live: Share your findings with your grownups, explaining what you learned and how you completed your tasks.

  • Record It: Create a video of your presentation or experiments to keep as a memory.

  • Take Photos: Capture images of your work, including any experiments or creative outputs like posters.

Reflection Questions

  • What was the most exciting part of creating your project?

  • How did this project help you understand chemistry better?

  • What would you like to explore further in future lessons?

To finish off, begin a timeline of scientists that you can add to as you go along.

Using a roll of lining paper, ask your grown-up to help you draw a long line across the middle of the paper . Then add the scientists you have studied so far to the timeline. Use screamers (long lines) to use as much of the paper as possible so that you can fit more individuals on. Make sure you include a photograph or sketch, their name, date of birth and death and what they were famous for.

That is it!! You have finished the whole Chemistry unit for Year 7. Well done!
